Among those that I listen to more often now than I had thought I would are Richard X's Presents His X-Factor, Vol. 1 and Tobias Thomas' Smallville. Richard X is pop distilled, from start to finish, but Thomas' mix disc glides gracefully from the beatless to buoyant without any jarring moves. It's no surprise, then, that its bridge-crossing center features a couple of tracks from the Berlin-based, Kompakt-distributed, Marco Haas (T. Whether it’s a matter of the technology not being up to the task yet, or the difficulty of ‘playing’ instruments which essentially play themselves, true live techno performers are still few and far between, and bands even rarer still. Whatever you think of his first band, Hebden's subsequent career can be seen as the idea of post-rock done right. His appetite for music, on the evidence presented in his albums, singles, DJ sets, and collaborations, is voracious. But Hebden has a way of transforming and integrating influences rather than channeling them. So if his loose improvised collaborations with drummer Steve Reid captured something of the spirit of the classic late-60s free jazz records on Impulse!, they also managed to carve out a unique and identifiable aesthetic that sounds very much like today. When working with others, like the wooly free-folk unit Sunburned Hand of the Man or the dubstep producer Burial, Hebden knows when to lead and when to get out of the way. But all the while, whatever the context, he's absorbing. And when it comes to his own records as Four Tet, he has a knack for combining sounds from all over and making them his own.
"
By Mark Richardson - Pitchfork
Catalogue : Many Scribes / 001-1
Format : LP
Condition : Used / Very Good Plus
Country : Greece
Released : 2013
Genre : Experimental, Wave

Τwo years after the release of Monkshood LP, Joalz returns with new recordings.
‘ Hello darkness my friend ‘ it is a four song E.P featuring actress & singer Mary Tsoni, known for her play at the Oscar nominated film ‘ Dogtooth ‘ .
The band here interferes the psychedelic side of its rock influence from the early Krautrock days of Amon Duul. What I got instead was a dense tapestry of electro-acoustic sound, any individual aspect of which was difficult to source. There were samples and whirring electronics and weirdly tuned guitars and synthesizers and clomping percussion and processed vocals, all kind of swirled together into this woozy, colorful, undifferentiated jumble. But as impenetrable as the music was, it wasn't completely abstract, and there were melodies and careful arrangements popping out of the din that became more apparent the more closely I listened. Or, as Losing Today puts it, ”no one sounds, has sounded, or will ever sound quite like Volcano The Bear”. A calculated hysterical melting pot of This Heat, Robert Wyatt, Faust and The Residents, of musique concrète and ethno-folk, all seen through a prism of theatrical improvisations and unhinged set pieces. VTB have released a number of records since the start in 1995, often mixing studio, live and home recordings. Golden Rhythm/Ink Music is their first studio album since ”Amidst The Noise And Twigs” back in 2007. Largely based on the sonic fault-line between Aaron Moore and Daniel Padden, it´s also the most focused and driven of VTB’s prolific output so far, showcasing the duo’s unique musicality and interplay, whilst retaining their trademark eccentricity and humour throughout. It presents “rock music” as seen through VTB’s skewed eye, featuring more of Padden and Moore’s drum/guitar combination than on previous albums. Taking the bizarre energy of their live duo performances into a studio environment, and combining it with VTB’s eclectic instrumentation and Clarence Manuelo’s singular audio-work, GR/IM shows VTB making their most vital work to date.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0689/5075/products/rsz_volcanothebeargoldenink_1024x1024_a9bb5036-ca19-41eb-89c0-b1df751ddf50.jpg?v=1506600934
alog-unemployed-rune-grammophon
ALOG : UNEMPLOYED [ Rune Grammofon ]
Catalogue : Rune Grammofon / RLP3116
Format : 4LP
Condition : New
Country : Norway
Released : 2011
Genre : Electronic

"
This numbered, strictly limited (300) 4LP edition boasts 77 extra minutes of music ! by Norwegian duo Alog, rare !
Mainstays with Rune Grammofon since their debut ”Red Shift Swing” in 1999, their new album ”Unemployed” finds them on top of their game with what is arguably their finest effort so far. From on-the-spot recordings of Sigbjørn Apeland´s legendary collection of vintage harmoniums in the St. Jakobs Church in Bergen, to high-end capture of the unique sounds of Alog´s many custom built instruments in the studios of Notam in Oslo and BEK in Bergen. For a period of three years Alog collected material from all kind of sources, times and situations and made new songs that constantly pushed their creative freedom in unexpected directions. An articulate work of delicate beauty featuring nine new Lau Nau originals and one cover version, it is adorned by an array of instrumentation, and enhanced by the integration of rhythm and percussion - a thing rarely heard on Lau Nau albums. Although it’s safe to say the mood is still firmly rooted in the shadowy side of life, we are occasionally taken to a disco - yet that too sounds as if it may have been organized by Death. Tonally and texturally rich and immersive, the new record includes contributions from Pekko Käppi on jouhikko, Jaakko Tolvi on drums, Antti Tolvi on bass and alto clarinet, Kristian Holmgren on guitar, synths and percussion and Matti Bye on grand piano and celesta. Beautiful and choral in places; tense and motorik in others, 'A Devil's Walk' affirms his role as a key composer in the realms of deluxe, electronic pop composition. The album opens with the hymnal, 'Sweet Unrest', with plucky mandolin refrains that wouldn't be too out of place on the soundtrack of a Piers Haggard production from the 70's, or a Marc Wilkinson score from the same era. Then into the rousing single, 'Song Of Los', revealing a more ardent side to Ring's almost Sylvian-esque vocal. Another highlight, 'Black Water' is one of the album's more edgy moments; grinding rhythms roll beneath a wall of kaleidoscopic sound, with dense vocal treatments layered over. All in all, Apparat has caught the very essence of forward-thinking and highly endearing music-making; whether it be stirring electro-pop, or lush, orchestrated instrumental pieces.
\
Catalogue : Bpitch Controp / BPC200LP
Format : LP
Condition : New
Country : Germany
Released : 2009
Genre : Electronic

"
In recording Moderat’s self-titled album, the three men began by renting studio space at the legendary Berlin Hansa studios (where bowie recorded heroes) in order to record the album in analog with the help of the studio’s vintage tube technology and an old EMI console from 1972, restored especially for Moderat. As the final pattering drums and shards of synthesizer uncurl on final track 'Rites Of The Wild', it becomes clear that this is a personal album for one so steely, grandiose drama rippling through its dark depths, emotions sounding like they are balanced on the edge of a knife.
"
Catalogue : Bedroom Community / HVALUR2LP
Format : LP
Condition : New
Country : Island
Released : 2007
Genre : Electronic, New Classical

"
Symphonic electronics from Ben Frost and his unmissable Bedroom Community debut. In 2002 Audika Records entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with the estate of Arthur Russell to issue previously unreleased and out of print material from Arthur’s vast archive. The first album Calling Out Of Context , features 12 previously unreleased tracks recorded during Arthur’s prime years 1985-90. The material is drawn from Corn, an album that was completed in 1985 but never released, and an abandoned album recorded for Rough Trade as Arthur had become ill. Many of these tracks show hidden sides of Arthur’s talent and underline the loss of his great potential. Contrary by nature, Arthur’s spontaneous reaction and altered perception to his environment produced music that remains challenging and contemporary. In comparison to 'Quaristice', which was allegedly constructed largely from edits of extended live sequences, this album reverts to the more traditional Ae method of dense and intricate studio composition, constructed between home setups in London and Manchester. 'Oversteps' has been hailed as one of their most approachable albums to date, which may sound horrific to some, but actually means that much of the oblique abstraction of the previous decade has been moulded into moments of sheer baroque beauty and satisfyingly complex rhythmic arrangements. Those moments of exquisite melodic beauty have been largely absent in recent albums, Confield had glimpses, and Draft 7.30 gave oblique peeks, whereas here you can't move for beautifully discordant acid lines, warped wind-up melodies and hyper-glistening alien glossolalia articulated with an advanced sensitivity. It's like a pent up rush of musical love has been vented, but in their typically controlled and highly considered manner. Rhythmically, they're locked on a stepping flex, somewhere between hiphop heave and tech-step science, following the curve from 'Untilted', rather than the techno inflections of 'Quaristice', but largely those rhythms are subservient to melodic requirements, as we already said. Of course, analysing these milestones of human achievement takes time and perspective, but this album is obviously a departure from their previous sound, while also a consolidation of everything they've been working on previously. Hope that helps. Many lesser artists would be flogging a tune like ‘Flat Beat’ to death, but an awful lot – much of it good – has happened to him since then. ‘Wrong Cops’ brings out the best in him – his sense of humour, short attention span and knack for a good riff all present and correct. A lot of the music is typically off the wall, funky and irreverent. ‘Cut Dick’ has one of those riffs that never stops, but in ‘Flip Bat’ you can hear the cinematic qualities that have led to a good number of soundtrack commissions. ‘Jo’ is one of the best of all, the breeziest funk you could ever wish to hear, a kind of quicker update of Steely Dan’s ‘Peg’. Meanwhile ‘Z’ sounds like a souped-up excerpt from the soundtrack to ‘The Man With Two Brains’!
