Country : Germany
Released : 2017
Genre : Jazz, Funk, Fusion
Revival is an as-of-yet totally undiscovered electric jazz rock recording from 1977 composed by visual artist, activist and multi instrumentalist Herbert Bodzin.
Bodzin, born in 1936, was a prominent figure in the local scene and initiator of the Jazzclub Hohenlimburg from 1957 to 1964. Hohenlimburg was where artists like Doldinger and the George Maycock Trio performed during the golden age of modern jazz and hard bop. On "Revival" you can expect straight, yet soulful fusion featuring deep downtempo and psychedelic flute breaks for the rare groove aficionado.
Bodzin himself is featured on piano, flute and synthesizer. Especially in his electronically created "string arrangements", the delayed Rhodes sound and the phased flute he gives this album a special, personal touch. Fellow musicians are Hans Kämper (of legendary Krautrock group Annexus Quam) on trombone and guitar, Bernd Szemeitzke on drums, Peter Johannesdotter on percussion, while Bernd Schöttner played electric bass.
