€22.00
Catalogue : Dol / DOL721H
Format : LP
Condition : New
Country : Europe
Released : 2015
Genre : Jazz
A classic Prestige session, the last of four in total, 'Steamin'' was recorded over two separate days, on May 11 and October 26, 1956, in between sessions for Columbia, who Miles Davis had just signed to. Essentially Davis' 'first' and most historic ensemble, The Miles Davis Quintet is rounded out by all-star soloists: tenor-saxophonist John Coltrane, pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones. By no means merely accompanying musicians, they deliver an astounding record, switching from smooth jazz ballads to edgy hard-bop numbers (most popular at that time) with admirable ease. 'Steamin'' is the last in a memorable series of recordings engineered by Rudy Van Gelder.
